Auto repair tasks that you should leave to a professional

Some people prefer to handle their own car maintenance and repairs - and more power to them if they have the necessary knowledge and skills. If you can manage your own oil changes and minor fixes, you can certainly save quite a bit of money on your vehicle maintenance. However, there are some aspects of car repair and maintenance that really should not be attempted in your home garage. Some tasks are simply too complex to be attempted by the DIY car enthusiast. Here are five auto repair tasks that you really need to leave to professional auto repair technicians.

Engine diagnostics

With older car models, with carburettors as opposed to fuel injection systems, it is a lot easier for the amateur mechanic to diagnose and fix various engine problems. However, with more complex fuel injection engines, with their intricate electronics and proprietary design features, diagnosing engine issues is not really possible without the proper hardware. When your warning lights start to come on, it is best to take your vehicle to a professional.

Fuel pump

Installing or repairing fuel pumps are precise and intricate operations that are best left to seasoned professionals. Don’t attempt it yourself, working with a highly flammable liquid like gasoline can be extremely harmful to you,  your vehicle and possibly your home.

Transmission

You should never attempt to fix anything to do with your car’s transmission. Even just replacing the fluid should be left to a professional. Transmission systems are designed with a high degree of precision, and should be left to people who have studied them and have been trained and certified in the skills needed to fix them.

Timing belt replacement

Like the transmission or fuel pump, a timing belt replacement is an operation that requires a high degree of precision and knowledge. A bad timing belt can literally make or break your car. Don’t risk this by attempting the fix yourself.

If you are experiencing any of the above five car problems, bring your vehicle to Professional Auto Repair immediately. Contact us for more information.
