Spring car care tips
Spring is finally on the way! However, there are still one or two cold snaps to endure before we can finally enjoy summer. The fluctuating temperatures of spring can be tough on cars, so it is a good idea to try one or two seasonal car care tips to help you prevent the need for any major fixes in future. Take a look at some simple but essential spring car maintenance tips.
Suspension
The roads can get quite a bit rougher in winter, which means that your wheels take more of a beating than they would in the warmer months. One or two potholes can really take a toll on your suspension. Check how your car is handling:
Tire pressure and tread depth
While you are having the alignment checked, take a look at the tire pressure and tread depth. Temperature changes can cause your tire pressure to fluctuate. Check the tire pressure and set it to your car’s specifications (found on the inside of your front driver’s side door jamb). Check the depth of the tread as well. If your tires have been significantly worn down during the winter months, it might be time to have them replaced.
Wiper blades
Wiper blades wear out rapidly in winter, thanks to all that ice and snow, and you need to be prepared for the summer rains that will be on their way shortly. Don’t wait until your visibility is completely hampered before you replace your blades. They are very cheap, and you can install them yourself.
Check under the hood
If you have a little engine knowledge, raise the hood and take a look inside. Check that belts and hoses are in place and in good condition. If anything looks frayed or broken, get your car to a mechanic as quickly as you can.
Take it to a professional mechanic
If you are not comfortable carrying out these car care tips yourself, bring your vehicle to an
auto repair professional. A mechanic will know exactly what to look for to ensure that your car can shake off any wear and damage from winter and get ready for the spring and summer ahead.
